FRANCESCO OLMASTRONI

I am an Associate Professor of Political Science in the Department of Social Political and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Siena, where I teach Public Diplomacy in the Master's degree programme in "Public and Cultural Diplomacy" and Public Opinion Science in the Bachelor's degree programme in "Communication Sciences".

I am a member of the Centre for the Study of Political Change and serve as Deputy Director of the Laboratory for Political and Social Analysis (LAPS), the Survey Research Center of the University of Siena. I am the editor-in-chief of the Working Paper Series in Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Department of Social Political and Cognitive Sciences and chair the University Survey Policy Committe. I also coordinate the double degree programme in Public and Cultural diplomacy offered in collaboration with the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (Poland).

My main research interests are in public opinion, particularly in connection to international events, international relations, political communication, deliberative democracy and political research methods.

NOMINATIONS & AWARDS

In 2022 I received two awards for research excellence for the papers "The Polls—Trends: Public Opinion Toward European Defense Policy and Nato: Still Wanting it Both Ways?" (POQ) and "Sharing the burden in a free riders’ land: The EU migration and asylum policy in the views of public opinion and politicians" (EJPR). The paper "Framing effects on the COVID-19 See-Saw" has received recognition as top cited article 2020-2021 in the SPSR.
